Star Tours II

Star Tours II is the working name used to describe the planned overhaul of the Star Tours ride at Disneyland, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Although there are few details currently available, Star Wars creator George Lucas confirmed in April, 2005 that a prequel-oriented Star Tours II ride is in production. In May 2009, /Film reported that filming for the new version of Star Tours was underway in West Hollywood, California.
Initially, the sequel was described as being based on the Pod Racer sequence in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, but it has since been reported that the ride will not be rethemed to the timeline of the Star Wars prequels, but will simply receive an update to the ride technology and storyline. The new ride system will consist of a glasses-free 3-D High Definition screen and an improved motion simulator.
While there is no official time line for the launch of the ride, rumors have circulated that the park is pushing to have the new version up and running by 2010.
Recently, in a CNET article about special effects for the new Indiana Jones film, Industrial Light & Magic computer graphics supervisor Hayden Landis revealed that after Indiana Jones his next project will be the Star Tours 2.0 film. However, since then no news has come from Industrial Light & Magic about such a possibility.
According to the Disneyland insider website MiceAge, the new Star Tours will open at Disneyland in May 2011.
