The game is a casual game sci-fi pirate MMORPG set in the distant future. Most of Star Pirates is focused on competition against other players, with gameplay involving attacking, stealing in-game currency, and increasing rank. Like other freemium, Star Pirates tries to attract players with a free free-for-all playability and better features for paying customers. In-game resources are required for most actions and replenish at varying rates. This forced inactivity has led to a very active and involved community where players may exchange points or buy resources from the game itself.
