Stadler Center for Poetry

The Stadler Center for Poetry is a literary center located at Bucknell University, dedicated to furthering poetic art. Housed in Bucknell Hall, the center is the seat of Bucknell's creative writing department and the publisher of the literary journal West Branch. The Stadler Center hosts a variety of visiting writers and offers several prestigious residencies and fellowships. Each June, it is also the host of the Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets. It is a frequent sponsor of National Poetry Month . Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets Since 1984, the Stadler Center has hosted the Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets, a three-week seminar on poetry for undergraduate students. Ten students receive a fellowship and work with Bucknell faculty and visiting poets. Sojka Visiting Poet Series In 1995, former Bucknell President Gary Sojka and his wife, Sandra, established an annual reading series that brought distinquished poets to campus for two days of readings and other events. The first visiting poet was Ellen Bryant Voigt in 1995, the 2009 featured poet was Baron Wormser. 1995- Ellen Bryant Voigt 1996- Donald Justice 1997- Lorna Goodison 1998- John Haines 1999- Eavan Boland 2000- Robert Pinsky 2001- Paul Muldoon 2002- Maxine Kumin 2003- Stephen Dunn 2004- Elizabeth Alexander 2005- Philip Appleman 2006- Cornelius Eady 2007- Robin Becker 2008- Adam Zagajewski 2009- Baron Wormser Fellowships The Stadler Center offers several fellowships. The Stadler Fellowship is awarded to a recent MFA, MA, or PhD graduate in Poetry. The Emerging Writer Fellowship is similar to the Stadler Fellowship, and is designed for recent graduates to finish their first book of poetry. The Philip Roth Residence is given to a young writer (either in poetry or prose) to complete a first or second book.
