Stacking chess pieces

Stacking chess pieces, or chess sculpture is a form of sculpture commonly practiced in Western countries, especially by young children. Given a standard set of Staunton chessmen, the rooks easily stack on top of one another, and the queen can be placed upside down on top of the rook. In addition, pawns, Bishops and knights can be placed in proximity to form a platform on which other chess pieces can be placed. Most commonly, plastic chess pieces are stacked. Chess sculpture was mentioned in the August 1987 issue of Chess Life magazine. Josh Waitskin famously created an extremely tall stack of chess pieces in the movie Searching for Bobby Fischer.
