Sri Priya Ponnapalli

Sri Priya Ponnapalli is the senior director in Machine Learning team at Google. She leads the Core Machine Learning (ML) organization whose mission is to drive ML excellence for Google and the world. She creates artificial intelligence for analyzing cancer whole-genoma and develops ML-powered products and innovations for everyone from research to production.
Early Life and Education
After completing her bachelor degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering at C.B.I.T, Osmania University in 2004, she got accepted by University Texas at Austin for her master degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. She received her PhD degree in the same university - University Texas at Austin - in 2010 and during her PhD degree, she worked in Genomic Signal Processing lab of Dr Orly Alter. She developed a novel mathematical framework for the comparison of multiple large-scale datasets.
Career and Research
After receiving her PhD degree, she started work at Bloomberg LP as senior software engineer and focused on risk and portfolio analysis for more than 2 years. She then became a senior software engineer in the Machine Learning department at Bloomberg LP. Following her 4 years career at Bloomberg LP, she worked as lead Data Scientist between 2014 -2016. Since 2016, she is the co-founder of Eigengene, which develops AI and uses it to analyze cancer whole-genoma in order to develop personalized prognostics, treatment companion diagnostics, and novel therapeutics. Since 2017, she is also a faculty member at Rutgers Business School. Between 2018-2022, she worked at Amazon Web Service (AWS) as a senior manager in Applied Science. In 2022, she became director in Applied Science at Amazon Web Service. Since September 2022, she started her new position at Google as a senior director in Engineering.
