Spider House Cafe is considered a center of culture in Austin, Texas. Despite being one of the northern-most coffeehouses near "The Drag" — the portion of Guadalupe Street alongside The University of Texas at Austin — Spider House is often the most crowded. Known for movie showings and small-scale, informal music and DJ performances, Spider House has added a full bar and table service in 2006, and is seeking to establish itself as a local restaurant and bar. With mainly outdoor seating, Spider House is relatively quiet during periods of inclement weather, and allows smoking in the outdoor areas. Spider House Cafe is regarded as a main hangout and important landmark by local residents, and college students especially. It has hosted awareness-raising events such as Oxjam '07. |
