Southland Dragway

Southland Dragway was a dragstrip located in Houma, Louisiana, on West Park Avenue on a bayou. The track opened on July 1, 1969. It was built on land which previously was a golf driving range, and the track office was the former pro shop. Southland Dragway was a major track, operated by the NHRA then later by the IHRA sanctioning body. Events included top fuel dragsters and funny cars. In 1977, Joe Teuton managed the track for one rain-filled season. After that year, the track closed, never to be reopened. The track was never torn down, the buildings were left abandoned, and it stayed like that through the 1980s.
