Soumyadipta Banerjee

Soumyadipta Banerjee is one of the most controversial bloggers from India. His blogs have always been a source of major controversies. A huge controversy was generated when apparently Soumyadipta Banerjee was forced to delete two blogs that he had written on Salman Khan. The blog (now unavailable) described the pathetic conditions leading to the death of Ravindra Patil, a witness in the 2002 Accident case of Salman Kha<nowiki/>n, where he was finally acquitted. Under pressure from Salman's legal team, Soumyadipta issued a public apology and removed the posts. Controversy struck again when Soumyadipta Banerjee found out the whereabouts about controversial former Bollywood starlet Mamta Kulkarni and revealed that she is married to an Indian drug lord. Another recent controversy happened when Soumyadipta Banerjee wrote an open letter to Pakistani actor Fawad Khan urging him to condemn the Uri and Pathankot terror attacks or leave the country. The blog went viral and almost every Pakistani media picked up the story. There were angry reactions from Pakistani media. Journalists from Pakistan protested strongly saying that the article was in bad taste.
Early life
After a brief stint at , Soumyadipta started his school life in a boarding school called Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith in Purulia (West Bengal) from where he passed out in 1995. As a student, Soumyadipta was weak in Mathematics but showed a strong ability to grasp languages. He used to be a typical naughty kid in school, according to his schoolmates. Even though he passed his school final exams with flying colours, number crunching always remained his weak point.

Class X from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Purulia; Class XII from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur; BA (with Honours in English Literature) from ; Postgraduate diploma in Personnel Management from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
Career
Soumyadipta Banerjee started as a trainee reporter at The Telegraph when he was still in his last year of graduation. Soon he was covering the crime beat on behalf of the paper. Some of his stories like the one on a teenage crime lord in West Bengal, created a sensation. Soumyadipta then joined The Times of India after a year and it was at this time, when he started writing on Bollywood, a beat that will stay with him for the rest of his career. After a brief stint in Times of India, Soumyadipta joined DNA as assistant editor when he started reporting and writing extensively in Bollywood.
After five years in DNA as their official film critic and Bollywood writer, Soumyadipta shifted back to The Times of India as their Bureau Chief. Soumyadipta started teaching side-by-side and was a visiting faculty and mentor at Whistling Woods International. He founded Bollywood Journalist in 2013. He has been a regular contributor there ever since. At present, he is the founder-director of the popular website where he blogs regularly. In 2014, Soumyadipta joined Harkisan Mehta Institute of Media, Research and Analysis as its Director where he continues to be a mentor to the students.
Achievements & Awards received
Soumyadipta was recognised as one of the most influential bloggers in India in 2015 by Scroll. Soumyadipta's blogs have been consistently popular when it comes to Bollywood. Due to his contribution towards education and popularity, Soumyadipta was nominated as a member of the Centre of Excellence at The Tata Institute of Social Sciences - School of Vocational Education in 2016. In the same year, Soumyadipta was also nominated as the member of the Board of Studies at Mithibai College.
