Sorcerer II is the name of the single engine diesel-powered sloop owned by Craig Venter and used in the Global Ocean Sampling Expedition (GOS). The ship was designed by Frers and built in New Zealand by T. P. Cookson in 1998. Sorcerer II is thirty meters in length and is registered in the Cayman Islands.
It is constructed of kevlar, E-glass, and epoxy laminates. This is done in order to give the vessel the high-strength and lightweight characteristics favorable for a single-masted sailing vessel. A 10-11 knot top-end speed affords for a roughly 250 mile per day cruising distance.
