Sophie Corcoran

Sophie Louise Corcoran is a British political commentator. She unsuccessfully stood as a Conservative Party candidate for Grays Thurrock at the 2021 Thurrock Council election and is known for her media appearances, for instance on Good Morning Britain.
Life and career
Corcoran was born in Thurrock, Essex. Aged 16, Corcoran became a member of the Conservative Party and, in May 2021, stood as their candidate for Grays Thurrock in the 2021 Thurrock Council election. She received 838 votes (42.6%) and lost out to John George Kent of the Labour Party., where in February 2022, she ran unsuccessfully for President of Durham's Students' Union (DSU).
In October 2021, she wrote a piece for i explaining that she felt "alienated" from the Conservative Party following the government's "policy disasters and an abandonment of some values." On 24 August 2022, these tensions culminated in her leaving the Conservative party following the revocation of her party conference pass, and resulting in her claiming that she felt "bullied out of the party".
James Marriott of The Times newspaper has accused Corcoran of "stirring controversies in order to become famous." In May 2022, Corcoran drew criticism for remarks about the cost of living crisis on Good Morning Britain where she suggested people work longer hours or change jobs to earn more.
