Sonic shower

A sonic shower is a fictional device used in multiple science-fiction universes. It generally 'works' by emitting sound (sonic) waves that disintegrate dirt and other substances that may be deposited on the skin.

In the Star Trek universe, sonic showers have been seen on starships.

This particular piece of technology was not explored in the shows nearly as much as others, such as the transporter or the replicator, for which reason little is known about how it 'actually' works. The creators of the shows have established, however, that one of its parts is an "acoustic inverter". It has also been established that it takes several isograms of dilithium to run a sonic shower.

In fact, it was not until season 5 that a sonic shower was actually shown on screen (in the 21st episode of the season, "Juggernaut").

Star Wars
In the fictional Star Wars universe, the sonic shower is faster and more efficient than water-based showers. It used ultrasonic vibrations to cause dirt and grime to simply vibrate/evaporate off a person's body, leaving it fresh and clean. Sonic showers were often found in refreshers.

Eureka
On the SciFi Series Eureka, Season 2 Episode 1 (Pheonix Rising), the silhouette of a pregnant Alison Blake is portrayed, in the backdrop, emerging from a sonic shower. This event happens in a near future and alternate timeline.
