Sonic Anniversary

Sonic Anniversary is a new Sonic the Hedgehog game scheduled for release in 2011 to celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog's 20th anniversary. It is rumored that it will contain new versions of classic levels from the original Sonic the Hedgehog to Sonic Adventure 2.
Gameplay
Sonic Anniversary is rumored to contain revamped versions of well-known levels from the series' games from up to Sonic Adventure 2, updated for current generation consoles. The gameplay will be an implementation of levels with both 2D gameplay and 3D gameplay, akin to the gameplay of Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors.
Representatives from Sega have claimed the game is to be released on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii, and Nintendo DS systems, and possibly the Xbox 360 system.
History
The initial announcement of Sonic Anniversary began with an unofficial announcement at Madrid's Gamefest event, with a "tipster" announcing that the game will be a compilation of "the best levels" to be adapted to modern consoles. Spanish Web sites Sonic Paradise and Sonic Reikai reiterated that they felt that those details were real<ref name="to be modern representation" /> and that the game will release in 2011.<ref name="Sonic Anniversary Confirmed"/>
Reception
Initial reception to the concept has been mixed. Tom Goldman of The Escapist said that Sonic Anniversary could "really pump Sonic up again," but could, if not pulled off, also give Sonic fans "another reason to frown."<ref name="SA remaking retro" /> Christian Spicer of Game Rant noted that with the flood of Sonic games late 2010, including , Sonic Colors, and Sonic Free Riders, and the announcement of pulling titles with "average Metacritic scores," the announcement of another new Sonic the Hedgehog title might seem "a little odd"; however, he claimed to be "a little interested" in the game, mostly because it could be a great "go-to game" for Sonic the Hedgehog.<ref name="Sonic Anniversary Confirmed" />
