Software Piracy in Indonesia
|
New and existing technologies and applications in the world are shaping the communication industry and society in Indonesia. The computer played a pivotal role in launching the communication revolution. This computer technology brings us on legal issue such as software piracy. Software piracy is a major problem and also a challenge facing the computer industry in Indonesia. In the year 2005, Indonesia has become the third highest country in the world for the software piracy. Without any response, it could be higher in the next two or three years later. Software piracy user is not only public for generally but also included corporate groups, government or even the law enforcement agency is not cleaned from this legal issue. Piracy presents a difficult and complex situation that point out a dilemma of the information age. Software piracy has become an ordinary thing in Indonesia and usually has been done without any mistaken feeling. However, more can be done and the key is public awareness that can make people recognize and accept the philosophical basis behind the idea of ownership before we follow the legal guidelines.
