Snowcovered

Overview
Snowcovered.com is an Internet marketplace and digital distribution platform for modules and skins for the DotNetNuke CMS platform. The web site enables developers to post and sell their creations, and allows both established software companies and small entrepreneurial developers to reach a market base of interested customers.
Company history
Snowcovered Incorporated created the Snowcovered.com marketplace in 2002. Initially the web site was used for selling modules for the IBuySpy portal which were created by the company, but later grew to enable other developers to post their creations for sale. The marketplace allowed developers to reach their customer base, manage electronic transactions and provide support to their users.
Between 2004 and 2009 Snowcovered became the premier marketplace for modules and skins developed by third-party programmers for the DotNetNuke CMS and Web Application Framework. As of August 2009, Snowcovered carried over 6,000 extensions for the DNN platform.
The Snowcovered marketplace was acquired by DNN Corp. in August of 2009 and integrated with the DotNetNuke Marketplace, allowing independent developers to reach a larger customer base.
Snowcovered now carries modules for DotNetNuke (versions 1 through 5), Sharepoint, general graphics and images and Windows.
Entrepreneurial ecosystem
Snowcovered and other online application marketplaces, like the Apple App Store and the Windows Mobile Marketplace cater largely to small developers, allowing independent programmers to reach a customer base for their work. Both small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as micro enterprises in developing countries can both develop opportunities and profit through the use of information and communication technologies, expanding economic opportunities in the developing world.
Snowcovered.com creates an common platform that allows DNN developers to market their skills through small projects with a low initial investment of time and money, encouraging programmers from around the world to use it as a "positive force
that furthers development", and the feedback from developers has been largely positive
