Slow grass

Slow grass is a musical movement that has been steadily gaining recognition since the late 90s into the new millennium. Slow grass has been described as taking the instrumentation and aesthetic of bluegrass, traditional folk songs and Americana, but infusing them with a distinctly darker melodic style and is most often quite downbeat compared to traditional bluegrass. Early pioneers and influences in the field include Sixteen Horsepower, Will Oldham, and certain works from artists such as Nick Cave and Tom Waits. Current slow grass artists include Woven Hand, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Brightblack Morning Light and Black Bear.
