Have you ever been walking along and came upon another persons path? Not crossed it, but walked directly head on into it and theirs into yours? This chance encounter leaves you standing directly in front of one another. After a moment, the two will attempt to pass each other, only to find that they are undeniably out of sync with their parallel counterpart. Each party, in an unearthly uniform manner, will proceed in an attempt to pass the other on either the right or the left side. Quickly, they realize that if they have gone left, their newly found equal will go right and vice versa. This will often continue until one, or both, parties use some form of hand or verbal gestures to indicate their direction of choice. Even after this solid attempt to pass up one another, there still very well might be a few more moments of this whole debacle. This entire experience is one of confusion, embarrassment and irritation. You can learn a lot about who a person is and what they are like simply by observing them and their tendencies within the confines of those brief few seconds. Often, one party will crack a joke a about the whole situation. Typically, although, these jokes are all to often squandered breathes of air and are wasted on the wrong person, the wrong moment and the wrong time because they only add to the ever mounting awkward moment that has since been growing. The term "slightlitching" was created in the springtime of 2007, by one 'Amanda Marie Cordero' when she got so fed up with trying to explain one of these moments and realized their is no one word to define it. She then, understanding that it would be quicker and easier to have one single word to describe this type of an all to familiar encounter than to have to say, "You know that thing when...", and spend a countless amount of time rambling on about it until whom ever she is talking to finally realizes what she is talking about, decided to take it upon herself to name this special type of circumstance. She single-handedly took the initiative to bring life to a new word, and in doing so, bring light to the abomination that this entire experience, which is common enough to deserve a name, should in fact HAVE a name. When broken-down to into its most primitive roots, the reason for the name, "slightlitching", can be completely understood. "Slight", by dictionary.reference.com definition means, "in small amount, degree: of little importance, influence, etc.; trivial". "Itching", also by dictionary.reference.com definition means, "of, pertaining to, or having a longing or desire to do or have something: characterized by restlessness or the desire for adventure or activity." The "L" in the middle is solely for harmonic and aesthetic value. It seamlessly connects the two words in order to create a simple definition that will quickly, lightly and freely smooth their way from the mind, up the vocal chords, around the uvula, over the tongue, through the teeth, and into the world around you, aimlessly waiting to be heard and easily understood. So altogether then, "slightlitching", is a small, trivial amount of time in which two persons intersect and, in a uniform manner, continue to ineffectively pass alongside each other. There, now wasn't that easier?
