Six Foot Smurf

Six Foot Smurf (otherwise known as SFS) was a ska-punk band formed loosely in 1999 during the third-wave United States ska boom. Though unsigned, the band would go on to become a significant part of the Pennsylvania ska scene, which by the year 2001, was still extremely strong, relative to other states. Throughout most of their career, Six Foot Smurf maintained a solid lineup which changed very little over the course of time.

The band began to receive heavy praise from notable east coast zines such as DCSka when they continued to book and play shows well after many of their local counterparts disbanded, especially in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Despite ska's eventual fall from popularity, the band continued to be one of a very few acts holding the scene together. It should be noted that this was done along side The Argyles, a band with whom Six Foot Smurf played many shows.

Six Foot Smurf had developed a strong cult following by early 2004. Having distributed releases on both coasts in true DIY fashion, they began drawing attention from record labels and promotion agencies, most notably the United States division of Music Choice. Shortly thereafter, Six Foot Smurf would disband, leaving behind a discography of several demos and compilation releases. They are still remembered and referenced in east coast ska zines as one of eastern Pennsylvania's final ska bands that came about during the third wave ska boom.
