Simon Hope Broadbent (born 4 June 1942) is a retired British civil servant who was formerly Chief Economic Adviser at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Education Broadbent was educated at University College School. He then studied for a Bachelor of Arts degree at Hatfield College, Durham, followed by the BPhil in Philosophy at Oxford, where he was a member of Magdalen College. Career After leaving university Broadbent joined the Overseas Civil Service in 1964, and served as an Economist in Malawi. Broadbent then became a Visiting Fellow at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research. He has been critical of US attitudes towards climate change, singling out the failure of the Bush administration to ratify the Kyoto protocol. He is a Trustee of the Anglo-German Foundation.
