Shaina Laurel Scott (born September 13, 1995) known professionally as Shi Scott or simply Shi is an American actress, artist, model, and singer most known for her appearance on season fourteen of American Idol. Shi covered Amy Winehouse's Valerie; becoming known for having a vocal style similar to the late musician. Name and meaning Shi's given name is Shaina. Shaina means "beautiful" but she shortened it to Shi (pronounced "she") because she says that she doesn't like it when strangers call her beautiful. 2015 to present Shi came to public attention in 2015 with her appearance on season fourteen of American Idol. She made it through Hollywood Week and became one of the members of top twelve women and girls who performed in Detroit. After performing live at The Fillmore in Detroit in front of: Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr. viewers who submitted their votes (via phone, text message, or online) for who would make it onto the next round Shi didn't receive enough votes; ending her run on the show.
