Sharon Haughey

Sharon Haughey is an elected member of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) - she is a Councillor in Armagh City and District Council.

Haughey stood in the 2007 NI Assembly elections - and was the youngest candidate standing in the Newry and Armagh Constituency.

In the Assembly elections Haughey received 4500 first preference votes where the quota was 7089. She was unsuccessful in being elected to the assembly but stayed in the count until the final count where transfers had brought her total to 5368.

In 1994, when as a teenager she wrote to US President Bill Clinton about her vision for a better Ireland. Later in 1998 at the request of the President, Haughey introduced Bill Clinton to Armagh when she presented her speech to a worldwide audience from the Mall in Armagh.

On Armagh City and District Council, Haughey is Vice Chair of Internal Scrutiny and a member of Public Services Scrutiny and Planning committees.
