History
Izimi
ShareNow was launched on March 5, 2007 as "Izimi", which was a free-to-download PC software product that let users share any file with anyone else on the internet, without the viewer/recipient needing to download any special software other than a standard web browser. The software also allowed users to post free classified ads which could be accessed by fellow users. The software was used not only by individuals, but also in the business world, such as in the instance of workers in the health care field who needed instant access to documents stored by co-workers.
Launch of social networking facilities
In mid-2007, izimi changed its name to ShareNow and the service was re-launched, in beta, in April 2008. ShareNow then became a social networking and file-sharing website which allowed customization of the user's profile page and it also allowed files of any type to be uploaded onto the user's Media page (free file hosting) for others to view, download or comment on. User pages included a Sharewall, which allowed them to post their content (i.e. videos, pictures, audio files, presentations - any file type) onto the Sharewalls of other users.
At that time, ShareNow was based jointly in Los Angeles, California and Bicester, England, and was co-founded by Chris Chedgzoy and the British entrepreneur Nigel Robertson.. In September 2009, Norm Schulz became the CEO.
