Shair Siddiqui

Shair Siddiqui is a great modern poet. He started writing at an early age.
The original name of Shair Siddiqui is Abdur Razzaque , who was born at Calcutta (India) and migrated to Pakistan. His educational qualification is Master in Urdu literature. He started his practical life with government service, simultaneously worked as part-time lecturer in Dhaka Jagannath Collage. He was also associated with journalism, starting as sub-editor in daily ‘Pasban’ and daily ‘Angry’ of Dhaka. He has been the Editor Incharge of Urdu ‘Chitrali’, the most popular weekly of film and culture, published from Dhaka from 1967 to 1971 till the fall of East Pakistan. He Migrated to West Pakistan in 1973 and joined monthly ‘Shama’ Karachi. As a free-lancer he was associated with daily ‘Hurriyat’ and weekly ‘Paiman International’ Karachi. During his association with Radio Pakistan and PTV (Pakistan Television) Dhaka & Karachi, he wrote a number of songs, Ghazals, Geets and Script/features. He wrote songs for the first pop musical program ‘Sunday ke Sunday’ series of Karachi Television in 1973/74 and introduced with the song ‘Albela Rahi’.

Shair Siddiqui also wrote lyrics for the pop music cassette “Reflection” of Pakistan origin Canadian Singer Firdous Rajan released by Shalimar Recording & Broadcasting Company Limited of Pakistan. The same cassette was released by Magna Sound India, Mumbai with the title ‘POP TIME with FIRDOUS’.
Shair Siddiqui is also known as one of the pioneers of Dhaka film industry especially with reference to the Urdu films. He wrote stories, screenplay, dialogues and lyrics for a number of films, some of them are the first joint venture of East and West Pakistan Urdu film e.g. ‘Hamsafar’ the first colour film of Pakistan. ‘SANGAM’, ‘BHAIYA’, ‘COOLIE’, ‘PAISE’, ‘CARWAN’, ‘BEGANA’, ‘PAYAL’, ‘MAINA’, ‘MEHERBAN’, etc. The Qawwali of Bhaiya film ‘ Medinay wale say mera salam kah dena’ has been one of the most popular Qawwali for last three to four decades. The some other most popular songs of Shair Siddiqui are ‘Kahan ho tum chale aao mohabbat ka taqaza hai’ ‘ Hum tum jahan meelay thay phooloon ki rehguzar main’ sang by Shahnaz Bagam, Firdousi Rehmans’s voice ‘Waheen zindagi ke haseen khab tootay’, Rubina Bader’s ‘Jab sham ka anchal dhalkey’, Madam NoorJehan’s Apnay Hoae Paraee, etc.
So far his literary work is concerned, he has contributed his poems, Ghazals and literary articles in almost all the literary magazines of Pakistan and India.
Shair Siddiqui’s first collection of poems was ‘ Ankhoon me samandar - Ocean in the eyes’ published in 2004. His other books awaiting for publication are ‘Jigar-e-lakht lakht’, ‘Sunder ban main aag’ and ‘Meray hamdam meray dost’. Now, he is busy in writing his memoirs as ‘Jo ham pe guzri so guzri’.
The latest collection of poems of Shair Siddiqui entitled ‘Bujhte suraj nay kaha - Said the setting sun’ has been published by Rang-e-Adab Publication Karachi and is now available in the market.
