Shafiullah Khan

Shafiullah Khan (1983 - 17 June 2011) was a Pakistani trainee reporter for the daily "The News".<ref name="Pakistan" /><ref name="Committee" /><ref name="Protect" /> Khan had recently completed a MA in journalism from Gomal University in Dera Ismail Khan and had joined "The News" to start a promising journalism career fairly soon thereafter.<ref name="Committee" /> He died on 17 June 2011 after succumbing to fatal wounds received while covering deadly bombings at the military cantonment's Khyber Supermarket in Peshwar.<ref name="Protect" />
Biography
Career
Khan was a journalist in training with "The News".<ref name="Pakistan" /><ref name="Committee" /><ref name="Protect" /> He had been working as a trainee for one week in The News International's Peshawar bureau before the deadly bombings according to the Khyber Union of Journalists, an affiliate of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ).<ref name="Committee" />
He had recently graduated from Gomal University in the town of Der Ismail with a Master's degree in journalism.<ref name="Protect" />
Death
While covering the first of two explosions that ripped through the military cantonment's Khyber Supermarket in a commercial and residential area of Peshawar,<ref name="Pakistan" /> the capital city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, in Pakistan on 11 June 2011, Khan received third degree burns after the second blast was set off after military and media arrived.<ref name="Committee" /> Shafiullah Khan and Asfandyar Abid Naveed were two reporters of the more than three dozen people the double bombing in Peshawar that were killed.<ref name="Protect" /> Khan was transferred to the Khyber Teaching Hospital's (KTH) burn unity after receiving third degree burns from the blast. Doctors said he also received metal shrapnel in his right shoulder. A week later, 17 June 2011, Khan died in a burn treatment center in Wah Cantonment, a military center near Rawalpindi.<ref name="Committee" /> Khan is the sixth journalist reported killed in Pakistan in 2011 in relation to his work.<ref name="Protect" />
