Shafique Farooqi is a Pakistani painter and calligrapher, known for his solo and group exhibitions, art studio and gallery work. He has produced more than 10,000 art pieces and 105 solo shows. Having spent a significant part of his life in Turkey, his work is influenced by Sufi mysticism. In his latest series of paintings, he uses the whirling dervish "SEMA" of the Mevlevi order as his inspiration. Early life and education Farooqi was born in Sialkot and then moved to Lahore. In 1966 he graduated with a Diploma in Graphic Arts from PTT Lahore, and in 1968 with a Certificate in Drawing and Painting from NCA Lahore. In 1997 he graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey with a Master in Fine Arts.
