Sergio Sergio

Sergio Sergio are a Scottish funk rock and alternative band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in 2010 by Eddie Carberry (guitar), Paul McInally (bass), James Dayer (drums) and Chris Smith (keyboard).
The band had toured and recorded with various singers without a permanent lead vocalist in place, until Lee Given joined the band in March 2012.
History
Formation and early years
In late 2004, Eddie Carberry and Paul McInally, began writing and performing songs during their school years, It wasn't until the following year where Carberry and McInally began forming the structure of a band, with James Dayer joining in 2005, and acquiring Chris Smith the following year. They began jamming and exchanging musical ideas, without performing live shows or recording material. With various singers stepping up to join them, as they began to form a live show, the four piece formed The Seminals, with Edward Wastell on lead vocals.
2006-2009: The Seminals
At the end of 2006, The Seminals began embarking on a Glasgow tour, whilst writing hits such as "Ode", "Who Are You?" and "Brotherhood of Hollywood". The band were generating notable interest throughout Glasgow, playing in venues such as Ivory Blacks, Cathouse and Soundhaus which were generally well received. The fusion of rock, funk and comedy was a big hit with the Seminals faithful.
In the new year, Wastell left the band, so the foursome looked to singer and friend Steven McAllister to take over the vocal mantle. The band carried on in the same vein as before, with McAllister carrying them through to the end of the year, before leaving them without a singer again. To 2009 the shows were few and far between for the band, with most of them going their separate ways. In 2009, the jamming sessions of the four ceased as well, with some concentrating on university, or others focusing on other aspects of music, such as theory and composition.
2010-2011: Sergio Sergio is born
A year had passed without any new material or jamming sessions. This changed in May 2010, at Carberry's 21st birthday party. McInally, Dayer, Smith and Carberry reunited for a jamming session at Carberry's home in Glasgow where they all rediscovered their love for playing music together. Their time apart had helped them expand their musical knowledge, so when this was combined their songwriting skills were greatly enhanced. The following day, Carberry's father gave them all the push to get writing again and bring the four back together. From this, the jamming sessions returned, with the four maturing as musicians as a result.
A permanant singer was found in August the same year, and during this period, the band was renamed, Sergio Sergio. Hit songs such as Stranded, Baby Babe and Westwood Show were created, and the band started where The Seminals finished, as they played across the many venues in Glasgow again. The same problem persisted with vocals though, with problems with commitment and attitude causing this singer to be removed from the band. The band were back to square one. However, Smith, Dayer, McInally and Carberry did not give up on Sergio Sergio, and got to work on the task of acquiring a new frontman.
2012-present: Given completes the line-up
Having continued throughout the year to keep writing and jamming, the band worked tirelessly to bring in a singer to complete the five piece. Working right in to the new year, the band held auditions in Glasgow in March 2012 where Given came in to audition for the band. They were blown away by Given's vocals and songwriting talent, and instantly asked him to join the band, which Given accepted.
The chemistry between the five was apparent from the offset. Given was the missing piece in the Sergio Sergio jigsaw, and the band worked on monster hits such as Eucatastrophe, Dangerous Minds and The Vanguard Siren. The songs from the previous regime dating back to The Seminals were also given a major facelift, with Given providing his musical knowledge to make improvements. The band began playing shows throughout the city again, as well as entering the studio, to record their first EP.
On October 5th, Sergio Sergio released two tracks on to their Facebook and Soundcloud pages. Eucatastrophe and Dangerous Minds were well received
On October 8th, Sergio Sergio released a further track to Soundcloud and Facebook. A special live version of the hit record, Stranded.
2012 was also the year the band played to a packed out O2 Academy. Approximately 1500 festival goers watched the band as they took to the stage for Future's Fest on the 8th December.
