Selling Instrumental Beats

Beats and Instrumentals is the terms used for the music behind recorded vocals or videos. Used by music artists for projects and albums to build a fan base and get recognized for music they write or videos they record. Beats and instrumentals are made by music producers
The art of producing Beats/Instrumentals and selling them onlie is a big thing on the internet. This world is full of artists of many genre's such as hip hop, rap, rnb, dubstep, etc. Everybody listens to music and has vocal artists that they love but not many people think about the music in the background and where it came from. Most vocal artists you hear buy beats/instrumentals from beat makers on the internet. Selling beats online has became a really popular business for a lot of producers world wide. Even most famous celebrity artists purchase the instrumentals they use from a beat store online.
Selling beats online started somewhere around the late 90's or the early 2000s. The exact date of when the first beat store opened is unknown but who ever was the first to start doing it started a big industry for other producers to follow. Back then selling beats online had no set guide lines for how it worked so a few producers came up with a system that everybody in the business follows now. One of those producers Anno Domini Beats is still selling beats online and has became one of the most famous beat salesman in the world. The system that they created for beat salesman is still being used today by almost all of the producers online.
You can start selling beats online by using a choice of 2 methods. The most recommended way is to create your own website from scratch to place your beats and promote to artists. The second way you can go about selling beats online is to use a beat selling platform A beat selling platform is a website that's main purpose is for producers to sign for a profile and sell beats. There are actually many different platforms to choose from. A reference link has been provided but if you even just google search beat selling platforms you will find many of them to choose from. Some platforms will allow you sign up for free and provide you will a profile to sell your beats. Usually if the platform is a free sign up the company that provides the platform will keep a certain percent of commission for any beat you sell. Other platforms that are more likely to gain you exposure will charge a monthly fee to sign up.
The Leasing System
When an artist purchases a beat from a producer they usually have to agree to a contract of use for the instrumental that was bought. There are many names that producers call these contract leases but the most popular used ones are these. Remember that every beat store is different and this more like a guide line for producers to use. Every beat store you find will have different prices and leasing agreements. Below is a basic example of what these leasing agreements are.
Non Exclusive Lease:
When an artists agrees to a non exclusive lease usually they are really limited on how much they can use the instrumental. They will be provided with the full length non-tagged version (See Info on tagged beats below) of either the mp3 or wav file. Sometimes the producer will give both the mp3 and wav file for a non exclusive lease. The contract usually only allows the artist to distribute/sell a certain number of copies before a new lease needs to purchased again. They may or may not have permission to use for music videos, commercial use, TV, radio, etc. After the artist has used up all of the rights they purchased to the beat they must buy a new lease to continue using or ask the producer about purchasing the exclusive rights to the instrumental. (Learn more about exclusive rights below).
Premium Lease:
The premium purchase is the basics of the non exclusive rights but gives the artist more rights to the beat. In some cases the artist may have the right to use the recorded song for commercial use on a limited basis. Usually the wav file is always given to the artist after purchasing a premium right. Not every producer provides a premium lease. If however they do provide this option usually they do not offer a wav file for a non-exclusive lease.
Exclusive Rights:
When an artist purchases exclusive rights to a beat that usually means that the artist gains full rights to the instrumental beat. Which means they can distribute/sell as many copies as they want or place the song in commecial use. In some cases the producer will only share the rights with the artist so that they may still gain royalties from finished recorded project.
Vocal Tags
Vocal tags or audio clips that the producer will place in the beat to prevent piracy and keep their music safe from being stolen. This gives the artist insentive to make the purchase. The vocal tags will most likey say the name of the beat company selling the instrumental. If you plan on being a beat salesman tagging your beats is one of the most important things you can do to protect your instrumentals from piracy. There are actual companies that specialize in creating vocal tags for producer although if you have a microphone it is real simple to create your own vocal tag with your own voice. Placing a vocal tag in your beats is also a powerful way to reinforce your brand name to be more recognizable.
