Scott Wallace Johnston (born 1961) is an American realist painter known for his portraiture, landscapes and still life. His art hangs in public and private collections around the world, including United States District Court buildings in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose, California. Among the notable subjects he has painted are Judge Charles R. Breyer, Judge Vaughn R. Walker and actor/director Charles Siebert. Career Educated in painting and illustration at the Art Center College of Design, Johnston was a successful commercial illustrator until his late thirties when he transitioned to portraiture and fine art. He is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, and the Art Renewal Center. Since 2002, he has been director of the Historic Tuesday Night Figure Study Group held at Arte Verissima Studio & Gallery in Oakland, CA. Major Projects United States District Court Johnston has painted the official portraits of Judge Ronald Whyte, Judge Maxine Chesney, Judge Vaughn Walker, Judge James Ware, and Judge Saundra Brown Armstrong. His portrait of Judge Charles Breyer was unveiled on May 21, 2013 in an event held in the Ceremonial Courtroom of the Federal Courthouse in San Francisco, CA. The ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice Claudia Wilken. Several hundred people attended the proceedings including fifteen federal judges. The event included a prerecorded videotaped speech by Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer honoring his brother.
