Scosche History
Founded in 1980, Scosche Industries began as a research and consulting company for automotive audio manufacturers. Founded in the garage of Roger and Scotia Alves, the initial business goal was to provide both the novice and professional car audio installer with the most up-to-date information on installation techniques for a variety of vehicles. Companies such as Alpine Electronics, Kenwood, Craig, Pioneer, and Jensen all used Scosche to provide them with vehicle information. In coming years, the company branched out into consumer electronics/technology products that extended beyond car audio to include things like wireless portable speakers, headphones, chargers, cables and more.
In November 1997, Scosche Industries relocated to a new 60,000 sq ft (5,600 m2) building in Oxnard, California. In addition to sales, marketing and accounting offices, the facility houses a full technical department with research and development and customer technical support. The production facility also includes manufacturing, assembly and shipping, and the plastic injection molding for car stereo installation kits is also done on the premises.
In October 2002 Scosche added a warehouse in Alabama providing East Coast customers with 1-3 day shipping across the United States. Then in early 2003 Scosche acquired another 20,000 sq ft warehouse in Oxnard, CA to accommodate the 50% growth experienced. Scosche also maintains direct ship operations in Hong Kong for those countries whose proximity is near the Pacific Rim. In late 2014, SCOSCHE became the anchor tenant at the new 88 acre Phil Campbell Industrial Park in Spruce Pine, AL and consolidated its Alabama warehouse operations into the new, larger warehouse facility.
In February 2015, Scosche celebrated its 35th anniversary.
Today, Scosche products are sold in over 50 countries worldwide by a wide array of the most recognized and respected names in retail.
Key patent
Roger Alves holds U.S. patent #4462564, describing the process of a convertible kit usable for multiple types of in-dash vehicle installation. The kit would be manufactured as one design, but be able to be modified for use in several types of vehicles instead of producing a specific kit only fitting a specific given vehicle. This patent was awarded as a significant change in vehicle manufacturing, specifically in stock locations and shapes of stereo head units, was taking place.
