Scientific Explanation for the Event of Miraj

Isra and Mi’raj is the name of a journey that the Prophet Muhammad took in a very short duration of time, in one night, in 621 AD. Majority of Muslim scholars consider it a physical journey but some Islamic scholars consider it a dream. A brief sketch of the journey is in the chapter 17 (Sura Al Isra) of the Qu’ran in verses 1 and 60, and the details of this journey are also in Hadith.

Isra and Mi’raj is a miracle of the Prophet Muhammad, the Isra begins with Muhammad was resting, when the angel Gabriel came to him, and brought him the winged steed Buraq, who carried Muhammad to the "farthest mosque". The location of this mosque was not explicitly stated in the Qur'an. There, Muhammad alights, tethers Buraq, and leads other prophets in prayer. Muhammad then gets back on Buraq, and in the second part of the journey, the Mi'raj, is taken to the heavens, where he tours the circles of heaven, and speaks with the earlier prophets, and with Allah. Allah tells him to enjoin the Muslims to pray fifty times a day; however, Moses tells Muhammad that they would never do it, and urges Muhammad to go back several times and ask for a reduction, until finally it is reduced to five times a day.

After Prophet Muhammad returned to Earth and tells his story in Mecca, the unbelieving townspeople regard it as absurd. Non-Muslims in that era did not believe on the story and they raised many questions about this journey.

The most important question and doubt which was raised by Non-Muslims was that how could it was possible for the Prophet Muhammad to travel entire universe in a very short duration of time?

Recently, in an article by Hafiz Owais-ur-rehman Khan on his website, he explained and answered some of the major logical questions about the Mi’raj, he explained the major questions in terms of Physics with reference to the Special Theory of Relativity.

Short Details about the Prophet Muhammad’s Journey of Mi’raj

On the midnight of Monday 27th Rajab, Prophet Muhammad was resting. The famous angel Gabriel came to Prophet Muhammad and brought Buraq (the horse-like animal). Buraq means electric and its travelling speed is equal or more than the speed of light. Angel Gabriel awoke Prophet Muhammad and told him the message of Allah. Angel Gabriel split (tore) the blessed chest (sacred chest) of Prophet Muhammad. Angel Gabriel washed the blessed heart of Prophet Muhammad by Aab-e-Zamzam (sanctified water in the “Mecca”) and angel Gabriel also filled the blessed body of Prophet Muhammad with wisdom (mystery) and splendour (special light “Noor”). Prophet Muhammad bathed with Hozz-e-Kosar (a holy water which is in the heaven). Buraq can travel a very huge distance within an instant. Angel Gabriel handled the bridle of Buraq. Angel Isra’feel and other angels followed them. In the galaxy of angels Prophet Muhammad started the journey with the highly dignity (glory). Riding (Buraq) reached to the Bayt al-Muqaddas (Jerusalem the holy place in Palestine) in a very short time. In the Bayt al-Muqaddas, all the Prophets and angels prayed “Namaz” within the leadership of Prophet Muhammad.

After the prayer, the Prophet Mohammad started the journey towards the sky, by the same riding (Buraq) and the same speed. Prophet Muhammad reached to the first sky where father of all humans Adam welcomed him. On the second sky Prophet John and Jesus Christ welcomed Prophet Muhammad. On the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh sky, Prophet Muhammad met to all the Prophets namely Joseph, Enoch, Aaron, Moses and Abraham respectively. After the seventh sky, Prophet Muhammad and angel Gabriel reached to the place called Sidrat-ul-Muntaha, where angel Gabriel had no permission to move further. After that place Prophet Muhammad kept continue the journey without Buraq and angel Gabriel. What happened next to that place no body knows, even the Qur’an did not disclose that secret. Prophet Muhammad was honored to meet with Allah. Prophet Muhammad did conversation with Allah. Prophet Muhammad also visited the gardens and other places of heaven and hell. After that journey when Prophet
