Sandra Kennedy

Sandra Kennedy (born 1937) is an American Democratic politician. , she serves as the city clerk of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a job she had held since May 1983.
Political career
Kennedy started her political career in 1980 when Fort Wayne mayor Winfield Moses appointed her to the Fort Wayne Board of Public Works. In May 1983, she won a special election to serve the remained of the term left by her predecessor, Charles Westerman. Later that year, she ran for and won a full-term as city clerk, and was reelected in 1983, 1987, 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007.
In her most recent election in 2007, she ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on May 8, 2007 and received 5,547 votes. She also ran unopposed in the general election and started her 7th term on January 1, 2008.
She was opposed in the 2011 City election by newcomer Zach Bonahoom, age 22. Ms. Kennedy was reelected with 52% (24,103 votes) of the vote to Mr. Bonahoom's 48% (21,722). Mr. Bonahoom is the grandson of former Indiana State Representative Otto Bonahoom. His great-uncle Fuad Bonahoom was elected Fort Wayne City Clerk in 1967 and was the last Republican elected to the post.
Ms. Kennedy's son, Robert Kennedy, is also employed by Fort Wayne City government as Director of the Board of Works.
National politics
Although she shares a common last name, Sandra Kennedy is not related to the prominent Kennedy family of Massachusetts. Sandra Kennedy's only role in national politics was as an Indiana delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
