San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce

The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce (SLO Chamber) is located in San Luis Obispo, California.
As an independent non-profit corporation, the SLO Chamber is not affiliated with the government, including any other Chamber of Commerce. It currently serves the needs of a little more than 1,400 member businesses, organizations and individuals. The SLO Chamber has 15 employees, 21 voluntary, elected board members and hundreds of volunteers that all work together to help it succeed.
Economic Vision Document
In January 2010, the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce developed a Vision Document for San Luis Obispo's Economic Future. The document was officially released at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner gala on Jan. 23, 2010.
The SLO Chamber assembled a group of knowledgeable community leaders who demonstrate the ability to imagine a community better than it is today. The Economic Vision Task Force developed forward-looking strategies to ensure that San Luis Obispo will be poised to take advantage of coming economic opportunities.
In its third major revision since 1992, the Chamber’s vision of San Luis Obispo’s economic future features long-term objectives, core values and economic principles, and a six-point economic strategy for the future.
SLO Chamber Structure
The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce's structure is simple. At the top is the policy-making board of directors, which provides direction for the SLO Chamber's professional staff. Next is the Executive Committee, followed by the 14 SLO Chamber committees. The board and committees are composed of volunteers, SLO Chamber members who strive to make a difference in the community.
Board of Directors
The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is a voluntary board that serves as the Chamber's policy-making body. The board's 21 elected members represent the business and professional leadership of the San Luis Obispo community. For diversity and strength, eight board members are elected one year and eight are elected the next year for two-year terms each. One is a designated member and one is appointed by the chairperson, who presides over all board meetings.
The board of directors sets policy for the SLO Chamber, and the professional SLO Chamber staff implements the policy into action.
Executive Committee
The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee exercises the powers of the board between board meetings, which are held one a month. The Executive Committee consists of the chair of the board, treasurer, board counsel, immediate past chair of the board, and vice chairs of the three main divisions of the SLO Chamber.
Chamber Committees
The committees of the SLO Chamber harness the energies and abilities of its volunteer workers, and are responsible to and report to the board of directors. Committee action is advisory only and does not become Chamber policy without Board approval.
