Samir Palnitkar (born December 1967) is a technology entrepreneur, inventor, engineer, author who has founded several successful technology companies, written technology books and has authored multiple technology patents. Professional career Samir started his career at Sun Microsystems in 1992 where he developed multiple UltraSparc microprocessor chips. Samir worked at Sun until 1995. In 1995, he founded I2P, Inc., a company developing semiconductor building blocks such as PCI, USB, 1394 for large corporations such as National Semiconductor, Philips, Hitachi, Nvidia and many others. I2P was acquired by Lattice Semiconductor based in Hillsboro, Oregon. In 1998, infected by the internet bug, Samir started Obongo.com with his long-time friend Jai Rawat. Obongo.com was an internet company specializing in online identity management across multiple websites. Obongo.com raised $33 million in funding led by Sequoia Capital and was acquired by America Online in 2001. Then, he started Ingot Systems, Inc. a semiconductor company specializing in high speed memory interfaces. Ingot was acquired by Synopsys, Inc. based in Mountain View, CA. In 2004, Samir started Mojo Networks (formerly AirTight Networks), a provider of secure cloud-managed Wi-Fi technology to Enterprise, K-12, Higher Education and Federal Government segments in a "Wi-Fi as a Service" model. Mojo Networks is also credited with developing the world's first Wireless intrusion prevention system. Mojo Networks has been awarded more than 30 technology patents. Mojo Networks has raised more than $50 million in financing from renowned venture capitalists such as Walden International, Granite Ventures, CMEA, Trident Capital and others. In Aug 2010, Samir again got together with his old friend Jai Rawat and started ShopSocially, a company that offers loyalty and referral marketing platform to online retailers in a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. ShopSocially currently serves over 500 top retailers and brands across the United States and the rest of the world. Publications and Patents Samir Palnitkar is the author of two well-known books on semiconductor design. In 1996, Pearson Education (then known as Prentice Hall) published the first edition of his book Verilog HDL - A Guide to Digital Design and Synthesis. A second edition of the book was published in 2003. The book has sold more than 50,000 copies worldwide and is considered a textbook for semiconductor chip design in both the industry and the academia. In 2003, Pearson Education published Samir's second book Design Verification with E. The programming language E is used for verification of semiconductor chips. Samir Palnitkar is the author of 5 granted technology patents. Education Samir Palnitkar received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1990. Then, he moved to the United States and got a Masters in Computer Engineering from University of Washington, Seattle in 1992. Later, he moved to Silicon Valley, California and got an MBA in International Business from San Jose State University
