SALIN

South Australian Library and Information Network (SALIN) is an informal, unaffiliated, non-profit network dedicated to serving the professional development and networking needs of library and information workers. It was established in 2001.
SALIN membership is free is comprised of library technicians, librarians, students, new graduates and other information professionals such as archivists and record managers. There are currently over 300 members. Membership is facilitated through a list-serv. Through the promotion of upcoming professional development events, topical online articles and job advertisements, the SALIN list has become a significant part of the South Australian Library landscape.
Initially the group was devised especially for the 'new generation' of library workers, that is anyone who has graduated with a library qualification within the last ten years. However, as the group has evolved and as its popularity has grown, it has welcomed established professionals.
SALIN provides an opportunity for social and professional networking through regular social nights, seminars and workshops. Typical SALIN events include library tours, job-seeking forums and drinks nights. A highlight in 2008 was hosting the Adelaide premier of the documentary "Hollywood Librarian" .
A SALIN membership survey in 2005 revealed that 50% of members go onto join or participate in the Australian Library and Information Association, indicating that SALIN is an important part of the professional development of library graduates and workers alike.
