Sahar Qumsiyeh

Sahar Qumsiyeh is a Palestinian professor, statistician, writer, and convert to the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Qumsiyeh was born in Jerusalem and raised with five siblings in Beit Sahour, a Palestinian town east of Bethlehem under the administration of the Palestinian National Authority. She received a BS in Mathematics from Bethlehem University and received a scholarship to attend school and later receive an MS from Brigham Young University (BYU). While attending BYU, Sahar was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was later converted and baptized. She then completed a PhD in Statistics from Middle East Technical University located in Ankara, Turkey and returned to live as a Christian Palestinian in Jerusalem. Her family was not happy with her conversion and she had to make many adjustments to live in Palenstine with her new faith. For many years she struggled to move through checkpoints to worship in Jerusalem, but when she began work for United Nations as a database analyst she obtained papers that made it easy for her to pass checkpoints and she was not limited to the checkpoint for people from Bethlehem. After four years working for the United Nations Qumsiyeh accepted a position in America as a faculty member in the Mathematics Department Brigham Young University Idaho (BYU-I).
