Sadayuki Hayashi, GCVO (born 10 November 1937, Hiroshima) is a retired Japanese diplomat who served as Ambassador to the Court of St James in London, England. He was Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. In 1997, he laid a wreath in Coventry Cathedral during that year's Service of Remembrance. It was the first time that a Japanese Ambassador laid a wreath during such a service in the UK. On 12 July 2001, a Shinkansen Series 0 train was transported from the Japanese port of Hakata to Southampton, loaded onto a special trailer, and taken to York by road. The train was unveiled by Hayashi on 12 July at the National Railway Museum in York. More than 400 people attended the ceremony.
