Sachio Ashida

Sachio Ashida is a former Olympic Level Judo Coach for the United States.
Early Life
Ashida was born near Kyoto Japan in 1924. Ashida served in the Japanese Imperial Army Air Force in world war II. In 1938, Ashida won the All Japan Koyotoshigakko Championship. Ashida moved to the United States in 1953 to attend the University of Nebraska. While there he earned his Ph.d in Experimental Psychology. HE earned his citizenship from the United States in 1961. He became a member of the SUNY Brockport faculty in 1970. From there he served as president of New York State Judo inc from 1984 through 1992. .
Judo Coaching

Ashida was a referee during the 1984 Los Angelas Olympic Games. .
Personal Life
Ashida had one daughter hwo followed her father into Judo, and became a high Level referee, Janet Ashida Johnson. In 2009, Ashida suffered a stroke and later a heart attack. Ashida passed away in 2009.
