Ryder Scott

Ryder Scott is an oil industry consulting firm whose primary role is to provide third party certification of oil and gas reserves. This certification is not required for listing on American exchanges by the US Securities and Exchange Commission, but most public companies use third-party reserves evaluation firms to ensure compliance to regulatory guidelines. Canada requires third-party reserves certifications annually from "junior" public issuers and European market regulators require reserves certifications, called a competent person's report, for initial public offerings. Reserves certifications are also used by banks and investors to provide a non-partisan, relatively reliable estimation of an oil company's reserves. This helps mitigate and define risks involved in acquisitions, exploration, field development or redevelopment and refinancing. Because of this, companies commonly mention Ryder Scott reserve estimates to potential investors in press releases and environmental groups use their estimates in publications as well.
Ryder Scott's customers include state-owned oil companies, "supermajor" oil companies and independent oil companies of all sizes.
Other services provided by Ryder Scott include geoscience and geology studies, field development and EOR design, reservoir simulation, economic analysis, management consulting and expert witness testimony.
