Public Motivation Engagement?
Russell Hogarth is passionate about developing community/universities partnerships to help give community members a common voice in HE. He believe the power of community partnership working can transform communities/ institutions and we can achieve more than if they stand alone. He also believes we can share skills and experiences to help with a better understanding of social issues and problems. The research programmes that he has been involved in benefit the very communities that we live and work in so it makes sense to work with community members as partners to share their personal preferences and gain from their experiences.
He has been in higher education for seven years as a community member/volunteer and throughout this time he experienced the delicate framework that exists within our higher education institutes. Russell is fortunate now to sit on a number of university strategic committees as an advisory community member and get my voice heard. Russell now has a unique position chairing a successful university creative communities group and has been given access to university facilities, its staff and students. In addition to having his own university office he has achieved associate staff status.
He has been awarded a fellowship in recognition of my voluntary achievements on behalf of the University. My passion now is to open the doors in higher education to other community members to follow in his footsteps. He would personally like to see a community member sitting at strategic staff meetings in every University, both nationally and internationally.
Russell has personally overcome hurdles and barriers to successful community/University partner working and he is happy to share his experiences to help university/community members develop a genuine and efficient partnership that utilises each other's expertise, skills and resources.
