The RuneScape Wikia, also commonly referred to as the RuneScape Wiki (or RSW, for short) is an online encyclopedia designed to help users from the popular MMORPG RuneScape with various guides, tips, strategies, and many player-submitted content. The RuneScape Wiki allows users who register and those who don't (IP editors) to share in and collaborate across various networks of information, which includes editing existing articles and discussing ongoing or current topics. However, only registered users are allowed to access their specialized User Pages, where they can post information entailing their own interests or hobbies, or just to serve as a "Welcome!" notice for others. History The RuneScape Wiki was created on April 8th, 2005 by a user called Merovingian. It is not sanctified under Jagex's official "fanbase." The RuneScape Wiki is available in over 15 languages and counting, and many fan-generated affiliations have surmounted over recent years. Overview Regular users and administrators alike are given the ability to create and edit their own personalized User Pages, however, all editors, including IP editors, may discuss events using their Talk Pages. Contributions of all users are also listed as well. The RuneScape Wiki allows users to submit and upload their own images, but they MUST be directly related to the game, and may NOT be personal images or images that hold no use. The RuneScape Wiki holds many site-wide and in-game events, known as Wikifests, to promote community involvement, and also has a monthly "User of the Month," (also known as Featured User) where users can be nominated based on their scrupulous efforts on the Wikia. The RuneScape Wiki is not designed to be a replacement for RuneScape's Knowledge Base or Game Guide, but more as an enormous "add-on" of information that normally wouldn't be available to the public. The occasional vandal or vandalization is dealt with effectively and quickly, usually within a matter of minutes. Punishments are handed out via a block log which lists the User-name, or IP address, the duration of the block, the reason given, and the Administrator who blocked the person. The Wikia holds many policies and rules which govern and enforce how a player should act on the Wiki, many of which are common sense. As of February of 2010, the RuneScape Wiki contains well over 13,000 total articles, all about RuneScape or cultural occurances within RuneScape, such as notable occasions, events, or happenings that have taken place.
