Route to Infinity

Route to Infinity is a Church of Scientology lecture set consisting of recorded lectures by L. Ron Hubbard in 1952, and a printed transcript. These lectures were originally given to Scientologists wishing to train in the subject. They are currently available from the Church's Bridge Publications and New Era Publications.

Technique 80
The main subject is what Hubbard calls "Technique 80", which is presented as "the means of resolving the being's ability to make and execute his decisions" , but also claims to offer superhuman extra-sensory abilities:

"Technique 80 has to do with a progress up the dynamics to a point where you are theoretically in contact, at considerable distance, and can be almost anything. And when I say 'can be almost anything', I mean you could be an icebox or a Cadillac or anything while you are still being yourself. Sounds fantastic, doesn't it?" - from the back cover of Route to Infinity cassette edition.

Technique 88
It also teaches about "Technique 88", about which Hubbard claims "Technique 88 takes the body away", and makes this observation:

"And by the way, people who do run 88 have to furnish their own coffins! We won't furnish those here. You also have to leave a suicide note for the police." When the Church translated this lecture in four languages in 1997, it removed this sentence. It was removed from English the next time it was published, in 2004.

Much of Technique 88 also deals with control, as in the subsection called "On Control And Lying":

The only way you can control people is to lie to them.
You can write that down in your book in great big letters.

Incidents
:Main article:

In his writings and lectures, Hubbard describes many key Incidents said to have occurred to thetans during the past few trillion years. Generally speaking, these followed a consistent pattern. A hostile alien civilization would capture free thetans and brainwash them with implants designed to confuse them or otherwise render them more amenable to control.

Usually, instances of implantation are termed Incidents, while the subject of the implants are often termed Goals, but this is not a set-in-stone rule. Not all Incidents deal with implants; some are simply unusual events that have traumatized thetans over the millennia. This trauma is said to linger for trillions of years and causes unresolved psychological problems in the present day.

In the book A History of Man, Techniques 80 and 88 are both prescribed by Hubbard in his detailed instructions to auditors as the only way to deal with these space opera incidents.

Litigation

In response to litigation from Scientology attorneys Moxon & Kobrin, the Google search engine placed a warning notice on their search results for the phrase "Route to Infinity":
In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 1 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint that caused the removal(s) at ChillingEffects.org.

The removed "Route to Infinity" search result was a page from Operation Clambake which included audio and transcripts from Hubbard's lectures from the course.
