Robu

Rob Hemsley, better known as Robu, is an English writer and television host. He currently lives and works in Beijing, writing and hosting the TV show Reel China. Robu has been a guest film critic for Radio86 in Finland and a commentator for Chinese newspapers including China Daily.
Education
Robu won the top academic scholarship to Eagle House School at the age of 11, before winning a further academic scholarship to Wellington College, Berkshire. He later attended the University of Durham, where he began his career as a film critic for Durham21. Robu graduated with a BA in Theology in 2004.
2005-2009
Shortly after graduation, Robu travelled to Lu'an, a prefecture-level city in Anhui Province. Although he originally intended to teach English at a local university, he ended up writing and hosting an English-language show, English Corner, for Lu'an TV Station. This show, which ran weekly for almost three years, regularly achieved viewing figures of five million. He was interviewed last year by Chinese and international media about his many years in and around the Chinese countryside.
In August 2008, Robu moved to Beijing, where he spent a year teaching Bible literature and theology. Late in 2009, he began collaborating with BON TV, an international TV network based in Beijing, on a series of travel TV shows.
2010-
Robu joined China Radio International (CRI) in April 2010. The show he created and currently hosts, Reel China, is presently the only English-language TV show in production that focuses on Chinese movie and entertainment news. It plays on the CRI website, as well as popular Chinese video hosting sites such as Youku and Tudou, where each episode receives dozens of hits a week.
