Rio 2

Rio 2 is an upcoming computer-animated film produced by Blue Sky Studios and released by 20th Century Fox. Directed by Carlos Saldanha, it is a sequel to Rio. The film is due for release sometime between February and March 2014, three or four months before the 2014 FIFA World Cup.<ref name=insidemovies/> Cast *Jesse Eisenberg as Blu<ref name=deadline/> Production Filming The first news of a sequel was announced on January 25, 2012, by Sérgio Mendes while celebrating his nomination for best song, "Real in Rio," saying "I think the plan is for the movie to come three or four months before the World Cup. The 2014 World Cup takes place in Brazil, where the original Rio was set. Fox has been talking about (it) and it looks like it’s going to happen. We’re going to have a meeting I think next week and Carlos is coming to town to tell us the story, and it looks like it’s a go."<ref name=insidemovies/> Casting Deadline.com reported that Jesse Eisenberg has signed up to reprise his role as Blu.<ref name=deadline/> Sequels Sérgio Mendes also stated that 20th Century Fox was interested into turning Rio into a franchise due to the success of the first film, with a representative for the studio saying, "The success of the first film was the start of a franchise."<ref name=insidemovies/>
