Rick Downes

Rick Downes is current city councillor in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. In 2006 he of mayor of Kingston where he was backed by the Kingston & District Labour Council. He came second in the 2006 election losing by a margin of 730 votes to Harvey Rosen.
He ran in the 2007 Ontario general election in the riding of Kingston and the Islands, as a candidate of the Ontario New Democratic Party. He ran unsuccessfully for the federal New Democratic Party in the 2008 federal election in the same riding.
In 2008 Downes sued Kingston Mayor Harvey Rosen for breaking Ontario provincial conflict of interest laws regarding construction of the K-Rock Centre, the home of the Kingston Frontenacs. The case was dismissed as the judge found there was no potential conflict of interest on Rosen's part.
Downes is separated and has three children, and works at Welborne Public School. He is a former teacher at Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School.
