Richard Swallow (born 21 May 1955 in Newcastle upon Tyne), is a Broadcaster, curator ] and former TV News Presenter. Born in Newcastle to a large Irish catholic family and a Northumbrian /Belgian father from an early age he was was only really interested in Art studying at Newcastle where he obtained a first class hons. A spell in lecturing at Newcastle College was followed by presenting his first programme for BBC One, Charged with a Musket, telling the story of the freeman of his home town. From 1980 to 1990 he was a familiar face at BBC TV Newcastle and at BBC Radio Newcastle, and was one of the launch presenters at BBC Breakfast. His popular BBC Radio Newcastle saturday morning show with Railton Howes ran for a number of years attracting big audiences and featuring interviews with some of the biggest names in showbiz at the time from Billy Connolly to Tommy Cooper. From Newcastle he moved to work in Devon combining working in education at BBC Spotlight TV and BBC Radio Devon BBC South West and at East Devon College where he was Assistant Principal. In 1990 he was asked to join the team at Anglia TV as an evening news presenter. For ten years he was a familiar face in the east of England presenting a range of programmes. At this time regional ITV as at its peak and Anglia TV was a centre for news, drama and quiz shows. Richard presented a regular series on the arts during this time developing a life long interest in the subject. This was followed by spells at ITN and BBC World. Richard presented Morning News throughout the week following the Death of Diana, Princess of Wales, anchoring ITN Morning News for her Funeral and follow up coverage. He was Chairman for the Royal Television Society's East Anglia Centre between 1991 - 2003. In later years he is working as a TV Producer making content for BBC One, BBC Two, Channel 4, CNN, BBC World, ITN. BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Local Radio. He also helps leading charities working with celebrities including Liza Minnelli, Jamie Oliver & The Fifteen Foundation, UnLtd / Sport Relief, and the Anthony Nolan Trust.
