Early life Born and raised in Winnepeg, Manitoba. Richard is the younger brother of James T. Prokopanko. Richard attended the University of Manitoba where he recieved a B.SC in Biology before moving to Vancouver British Columbia, attending the University of British Columbia to recieve a B.SC in Forestry. Work Richard has served as the Director of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations for Alcan (now Rio Tinto Alcan) since 1997. He previously worked for the BC Ministry of Forests in 1980s, and served as Ministerial Assistant to British Columbia Minister of Forests. He went on to work as a Policy Analyst in the section of Policy, Planning and International Affairs for Natural Resources Canada, and served on Parliament Hill as Chief of Parliamentary Affairs and as Executive Assistant to the Federal Minister of Forests. Richard sits on the National Round Table of Environment and the Economy, BC Business Council, Mining Council of BC and is the Chair of the Arts Umbrella Association. Richard works closely with the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival and the Peak to Peak dinner. Richard and his wife Jacquie are chairs on the fundraising board of York House School, the private school their daughter attended until 2010. Awards Richard received the Natural Resources Canada Departmental Merit Award for his work on Canada’s first report on 'Criteria and Indicators for the Sustainable Development of Canada’s Forests'. He is also a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal for outstanding community service. Personal Richard and his family reside in the affluent neighborhood of Shaughnessy, Vancouver.
