Richard Bruce Hart (fl. late 20th century) is an American butoh dancer. He founded the Guren Dance Theater (Guren Gekijo) with Aya Kimura in 1998. He is active as a solo improvisational dancer in Nagano, Japan. Born in the United States, he moved to Japan in 1981. From 1986 until 1988, Hart studied contemporary literature at the University of Tokyo. In 1986, he began studying dance under Masaki Iwana. From 1988 until 1991, he participated in workshops held by the Tomoe Shizune and Hakutobo butoh company. In 1998, Hart founded the Guren Dance Theater (Guren Gekijo) with Aya Kimura in Nagano, Japan. In April 1999, the Guren Gekijo held its first performance. In 2000, the dance company performed, in Sweden, for the first time outside of Japan. In 2001, Hart began work as solo dancer. He frequently collaborates with installation artist Junichi Kakizaki in performance work and with improvisational musicians including Maru (Tsuyoshi Goto).
