Richard A. Kimball Jr. is an American healthcare professional Angel Investor, Venture Capitalist, consultant, speaker, and author. Kimball is known for being an honorary trustee at The Brookings Institution and Fellow in the Stanford University Distinguished Career Institute . Early life Kimball was born in Massachusetts in 1963. A graduate of Philips Academy 1982. Higher education Kimball continued his studies at Yale University 1986 and became a Fellow in the Stanford University Distinguished Career Institute in 2016 . Career Kimball's career covers global businesses. Kimball started as a equity capital markets banker for Morgan Stanley (Managing Director) and later joined Goldman Sachs (Partner) where he led that firm’s Global Healthcare Investment Banking business. Kimball was involved in projects advising healthcare companies such as Medtronic, Pfizer, Wellpoint, UnitedHealth Group, among many others. Kimball's early interest in improving outcomes and lowering costs in the healthcare industry (via Big Data, Telehealth) led to his involvement in disease management and patient participation engagement modalities. In order to become involved in healthcare public policy, Kimball joined the board of the Brookings Institution where he is now a member of the board and sits on that institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program Leadership Council. Kimball focused on healthcare delivery at the local level and joined the board of the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention in Harlem, which is a single member corporation of Memorial Sloane Kettering. Rick chaired the Finance Committee of their Board of Trustees. Helping to Change the Healthcare Industry Kimball has focused on contributing to the transition from the volume-driven, fee-for-service healthcare system to one that is oriented towards bundled payments, pay-for-performance reimbursement, accountable care and, ultimately, population health . In this context, Kimball helped to facilitate the Healthcare Transformation Project (HTP) at the 2013 HIMSS industry conference .
