Rich Stowell

Rich Stowell is a writer, an educator, and a member of the California Army National Guard. He is the author of .
Early Life
Stowell was born on August 4, 1976 in Salt Lake City , Utah . He graduated from East High School in 1994. He was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a Mormon mission to Carlsbad , California from 1995 - 1997.
Teaching Career
In 2000, Stowell moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and transferred to California State University , Hayward. He graduated from CSUH in 2004 with a BA in Social Studies, and began teaching at Oakland Unity High School in East Oakland.
The following year he earned his California Teaching credential from CSU East Bay. In 2006 he earned a Masters of Arts in Education from Western Governors University.
From 2005 - 2006, he taught math for Leadership Public Schools. In 2007 he left his teaching position and began working for an education consulting firm. He also began teaching at the University of San Francisco.
Army National Guard Career
Stowell was teaching when he enlisted in the United States Army, California Army National Guard. He went to Basic Training at Fort sill, Oklahoma in May, 2007. After one academic year as a teaching consultant, Stowell went to the Defense Information School at Fort Meade , Maryland , for his Advanced Individual Training. At DINFOS, Stowell was an advanced honor graduate in his class of broadcast journalists.
Shortly after his return from AIT, Stowell deployed with his home unit, 69th Public Affairs Detachment, California Army National Guard, to the Balkans in support of NATO’s Kosovo Force. The 69th Pad was part of KFOR 11, under command of California ’s 40th Infantry Division. KFOR 11 returned home in late November, 2009
