Background
Rex Roy is an automotive enthusiast, writer and photographer. He writes from the perspective of an automotive enthusiast. His work is widely published by multiple print and on-line outlets, including occasional contribution to The New York Times and weekly filings to AutomobileMag.com.
Roy graduated from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in 1984 and got his start in the automotive industry via his father's business, Ross Roy Communications. Ross Roy Communications was a merchandising and advertising agency in Detroit that enjoyed a long period of success spanning from 1928-1981. The agency was known primarily for its work in dealer and merchandising programs for Chrysler Corporation, Kmart, Kelly Services, and others. After Ross Roy retired in the early 1980s, the firm endured questionable leadership and was later sold and absorbed into a series of national advertising agencies ending with BBDO.
After working at several agencies in the metro Detroit area, Rex Roy concluded his career in that business as a group creative director responsible for Cadillac and Pontiac automotive catalogs at D'Arcy McManus Masius (later called DMBB and chemistri). He began his writing career in journalism in 2004 with a series of articles published by Edmunds.com and their enthusiast site, InsideLine.com.
