Rewind: The Best in Old Skool Garage

Rewind - The Best In Old Skool Garage is an urban music event dedicated to playing old skool UK Garage. It was created by Dave Brinson and Steve Smith in August 2006. They thought that the South-East needed an alternative to funky house and grime, so they decided to bring back classic vocal garage and thus, Rewind was born.

Events

The first event was at Zero Bar in Bexleyheath on the 29th September 2006 and was an instant success, thanks to the hard work of the duo and their team and the MC skills of PSG.

On Saturday the 9th September December 2006 DJ Luck and MC Neat came to Play Bar in Bexleyheath and were greeted by a sell out crowd of garage heads, who just wanted to 'ave it!' After the event DJ Luck said "That was the hottest, sweatiest box I have ever played in, and it was wicked!" This wasn't bad for Rewind's 2nd event, held in an old snooker hall!

Throughout 2007 Dave and Steve were looking for another venue to host the event and had to wait until a meeting in September in The Drayman, Bexleyheath before they found it. Steve Harvey the Bar's promotion manager decided to take a chance on the boys to help their flagging Friday nights, on certain conditions. The event had to be Over 25's and they had to book an act who would maintain the bar's premier image. The boys decided that there was only 1 person who could both do that and who still had the appeal to pack a bigger venue - MJ Cole.

Dave and Steve invited long time friend and MC - Paul Andrea to join the team and help with the promotion. The newly formed trio did an amazing job and the event was yet another success. Bhoyed by this success The Drayman invited them back for another event.

In December 2007 Mat 'Jam' Lamont was booked to headline the 4th Instalment of Rewind and he did not disappoint. Worryingly the event clashed with the opening of Bexleyheath's newest venue - The Ivory Lounge - so the boys stepped up their promotion and hit it even harder than before. Thankfully, it paid off with The Ivory Lounge being practically empty and The Drayman full!

Rewind was now ready for the next level...DJ EZ! In late January 2008 it was decided that the team needed an extra person to help it move on and Roberto Farina was invited into the fray. EZ was booked for February and Bexleyheath was about to get 4 weeks of non-stop promotion. The work was grueling, but the quartet did not give up and as a result Bexleyheath had the biggest night in it's history with nearly 900 people squeezed into the Drayman.

This was followed up by DJ Luck and MC Neat again at The Drayman, a bank holiday date at Crush Bar in Dartford with Mike 'Ruff Cut' Lloyd, CKP & Sharky P and then another date at The Drayman with Pied Piper and The Masters Cermonies.

Despite Rewind's localised success the quartet decided that they should branch out and do something that no garage promoters had done for 7 years - take garage back to West End. At the beggining of June, they teamed up with Lewis Coleman's Funk Love promotion and held an event at No.1 Leicester Square. Mikee B, Norris 'Da Boss' Windross, Mike 'Ruff Cut' Lloyd, Creed, CKP & PSG were all booked and put on a performance of a lifetime as the West End was blown away by an awesome event.

At the June saw Rewind return to The Drayman and The Masters of Ceremonies were there performing their hit 'Do you really like it?'. Old Skool Garage was well and truly back in business.

In July 2008 Rewind put on a Boat Party on The River Thames with MC CKP as well as debuting in Basildon with The Dreem Teem, Mike 'Ruff Cut' Lloyd, Mat 'Jam' Lamont, MC Creed, MC CKP and MC PSG.
